How to Cook Siopao Asado - Chowking Style - Recipe and Tutorial

What's Siopao Asado?

Siopao Asado or Hot Buns is a type of dumpling with sweet pork filling. Often referred to as Steamed Dumplings, this tasty bun is so popular that it needs no introduction of any sort.Everytime I  here the word Siopao Asado it reminds me of Chowking or Ma Mon Luk (the original in the Philippines). When I dine in this restaurants I always order Siopao Asado as Take-out because I want to bring pasalubong to my kids. Kids loves this dish because if it's tasty filling and sweet and salty sauce that kids can't get enough of.

My Siopao Asado recipe is quite simple to prepare and cook anyone can do it. Just be sure to have the ingredients and follow all the steps and remember not to skip this steps. How to Cook Chowking Siopao Asado

Siopao Asado can be enjoyed anytime of the day and any day of the week. You can serve this treat for breakfast, lunch , merienda , dinner or even as midnight snack. You can now cook your own Siopao Asado just follow the instructions below.

Siopao Asado Recipe

Ingredients we need :

For the Dough:
  • ½ cup sugar (added to the flour mixture)
  • 2 ½ tablespoons sugar (added to yeast mixture)
  • 1 pouch dry yeast
  • 5 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 ¼  tablespoon baking powder
  • 6 tbsp shortening (you can also use lard or margarine)
  • 2 cups warm water
The Asado Filling:
  • 3 tablespoons lard or shortening
  • 2 pounds pork, chopped into small pieces
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch, diluted in 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons garlic, minced
  • 1 large onion, minced
  • 4 tablespoons sugar
  • 4 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 3 tablespoons oyster sauce

Step by Step Cooking Procedures :

Before we start dilute the corn starch in a container first so it will be ready later on.
  1. First of cook the Asado filling by heating the shortening in a pan
  2. Next Saute the garlic and onions.
  3. Put the pork and cook until the color of the outer part turns light brown.
  4. Add the soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, and sugar then mix the ingredients well. Simmer the mixture for about 40 minutes.
  5. Put the corn starch (diluted in water) and mix until the texture of the sauce becomes thick then set it aside for a while.
  6. Make the dough by placing warm water in a bowl then add the yeast and sugar. Mix it thoroughly.
  7. Leave the mixture for about 10 to 15 minutes
  8. In a mixing bowl, put the flour, baking powder, shortening , and the yeast-sugar-water mixture then mix well be sure bubbles should have formed on top by then.
  9. Knead the combined mixture until the texture of the dough becomes fine. (refer to the video to learn how to knead) Let the dough rise by setting it aside for at least about an hour (place in the mixing bowl and cover the top ).
  10. Knead the dough again then cut into individual slices (this will be the actual size of the siopaos)
  11. Flatten the dough until a round shape is formed using a rolling pin.
  12. Put the asado filling on the middle of the flattened dough and wrap. (refer to the video if your stuck)
  13. Place the created siopao in a steamer and steam for approximately 15 minutes.
